Nee Earns Bachelor’s Degree at Providence College

Thomas James Nee, son of Judy and Jack Nee, and grandson of Isabel O’Hara, all of Winthrop, was among over 900 students from Providence College who received undergraduate degrees during the College’s 100th Commencement Exercises held on Sunday, May 20. Nee, a  theology major, graduated with Honors with a bachelor of arts degree. He is continuing his theological studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana

Founded in 1917, Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars. The Catholic, liberal arts college has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 4,000 students and offers degrees in 50 academic majors. Since 1997, Providence College consistently has been ranked among the top five regional universities in the North according to U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges.”

 

Dzeneta VELIC GRADUATES FROM CENTRE COLLEGE

Area students graduated from Centre College during the 195th Commencement ceremony held on campus Sunday, May 20.

The Commencement address was delivered by Robert M. Franklin Jr., president emeritus of Morehouse College and current professor of moral leadership at Emory University, who urged the record 330 graduates in the Centre College Class of 2018 to “befriend America’s highest ideals.”

Caroline Abbott earned a bachelor of arts degree in politics. Abbott is the daughter of Karen and Harrell Abbott of Nashville and is a graduate of Battle Ground Academy.

Founded in 1819, Centre College is a U.S. News top-50 national liberal arts college, and is named one of Forbes’ top-15 colleges/universities in the South seven years in a row

  • Dzeneta Velic graduated with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. Velic is the daughter of Mersida and Mirsad Velic of Revere and is a graduate of Revere High School.

Germain among Kennesaw State Class of 2018

Kennesaw State University recently welcomed its newest class of graduates. Including Ervens Germain of Revere who earned a BS in Political Science

Local Students Named to Dean’s List at Stonehill College

A number of local students have been named to the Spring 2018 Dean’s List at Stonehill College.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.

The university held two Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 19 at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell for the Class of 2018, 4,358 strong. The record number of graduates for the 11th consecutive year is the result of UMass Lowell’s 57 percent increase in enrollment since 2007 and climbing student success rates.

Both ceremonies were presided over by UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney, who is a two-time UMass Lowell graduate. The Commencement addresses were delivered by award-winning author and historian Jon Meacham, whose latest book, “The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels” debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list, and U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas, who has represented Massachusetts’ 3rd District, which includes the university, for more than a decade and received a Chancellor’s Medal for Distinguished Service. Meacham was presented with an honorary doctorate of humane letters.
