RevereTV to Feature Live Coverage of Sand Sculpting Festival

By Sue Ellen Woodcock

For years RevereTV has been covering the Sand Sculpting Festival and this year is no different.

“We are there everyday giving updates and showing the progress of the event,” said Robert Dunbar, executive director of the station.

There will be daily walk-throughs and video with the various sculptors. There will also be time-lapse filming of the centerpiece sculpture, the USS Constitution and live coverage of the event at 6 p.m. on Saturday. People will be able to watch a recap on YouTube and also on Channel 8 through Friday starting at 7:30 p.m..

Dunbar said they are also excited about the new studio being built by RevereTV. Next year the crew plans to move from its present studios at 385 Broadway to 261 Washington Ave (formerly Glenwood Memorials).

“We’re building out our new permanent home,” Dunbar said, “under the construction of Revere’s own DelVecchio Construction.”

The property has been totally gutted and rehabilitated. There is one main studio and one kitchen studio inside the 4,000 square feet building.

“We’re excited about being able to do a cooking show.” Dunbar said. “It’s double the size of our current studio on the second floor and there is a garage for the RTV van. We’re looking forward to moving in in the first quarter of 2018.”

Of interest to Dunbar and others,  a public hearing about cable television service in the city of Revere will be held on Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. in the City Council chambers of City Hall. The purpose of the hearing will be to review the performance of the cable television operator in Revere, Comcast, during its current license term and to hear testimony on future cable-related needs and interests of the Revere community.

“The city negotiates the franchise on behalf of Revere TV,” Dunbar said. “It’s part of the normal franchise agreement.”

For the last 10 years RTV has covered government meetings, community access television shows, school and sporting events.

“RTV is always looking for community members to join our team,” Dunbar said.
