It was a smooth transition of power on the Revere City Council Monday night when Robert Haas Jr. was voted in as City Council President for 2017 and Ward 4 Councillor Patrick Keefe was voted in as City Council Vice President.

Both were sworn in by Assistant City Clerk Joanne Giarla.

Haas, a former Mayor and a long time city councillor has not been city in the President’s chair since 1988.

“This is going to be a busy year in Revere with lots of commercial development,” Haas said during his brief remarks. Haas said he would like to see more neighborhood involvement in projects. He also acknowledged that the building permit process needs to be looked at. Haas would like to see something where neighborhoods have to meet with developers.

“I want to see Revere live up to its potential,” Keefe said. “The council will help guide the city through 2017.”

Councillor Steve Morabito, who served as vice president in 2016 and outgoing President Jessica Giannino expressed appreciation and gratitude for being able to serve.
