Vadala to Become Assistant Super

Revere Supt. Dianne Kelly announced that she has named a new assistant superintendent to replace Chris Malone, who is leaving to become the superintendent in Tewksbury.

Josh Vadala, currently the assistant principal at the Whelan School, will become the new assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services.

Vadala is a graduate of Boston College and holds a doctorate from UMass-Boston. He has specialized in special education and will be assuming responsibility for the district’s special education program, which is what Malone was doing.

He has taught or been an administrator at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.

In other news, Seacoast Principal Tom Misci has announced his retirement from the district after many years of leading the district’s alternative high school.

Other changes in the district include:

  • Beachmont Assistant Principal Chad Flahive has announced that he will leave the teaching profession after a very successful career to pursue a career in fitness and training.
  • Garfield Assistant Principal Pam Cella will retire this year after nearly 30 years in the district. She will be replaced as assistant principal by Steve Pachinski, who is an administrator at Revere High School now.
  • Jess Therioux, director of guidance, has left her position to pursue an assistant principal job in Reading.

•Teachers in the district retiring include William Adams (RMA), Karen Alba-Madden (Whelan), Robert Cataldo (Hill), Julia Cilano (Lincoln), Denise Fiumara (RHS), Arthur Hunsicker (RHS), Dorothy Marchand (Hill), Tony Mattera (GMS), Barbara Selame (RMA), Ann Tyman (Hill), and Jessica Consoli.
