Developers Come Back for A Second Time

Several months ago, Redgate developers of One North in Chelsea, came to Revere looking to develop the former Shaw’s site on Revere Beach Parkway.

This time developers are not only making a presentation to the City Council, but they are making presentations at public meetings for both Ward 2, which the development would be in, and Ward 1, which abuts the property.

“The city of Revere has received a proposal to develop the old Cerretani/Shaw’s property,” said Ward 2 Councillor Ira Novoselsky.

Redgate’s principals Mark Robinson and Mark White submitted a proposal for apartments on the site last summer. At the time residents opposed the apartments with concerns for traffic and the impact on school system. Along with the controversy came an attempt from former Mayor Dan Rizzo to pass a moratorium on residential building over four units.

There will be 241 residential units, with 75 percent of the units being one bedroom and the rest will be two bedrooms spread throughout a six-story building. The hotel, expected to be five stories, is a Marriot subsidiary with 140 guest rooms similar to the Marriott property by the bridge in Chelsea.

City Councillors Ira Novoselsky and Joanne McKenna said the development is targeting millenials with amenities such as doggy daycare, exercise room, pool, etc. To get into the development millenials will have to have a salary of $80,000.

“Millenials are more social,” said Novoselsky, who has walked the neighborhood handing out fliers on the project.

He added that he knows the creek behind the property is a concern.

“We are advocating to get funding for the creek,” McKenna said.

McKenna said there is also a concern with water pressure, water breaks and sidewalks. If the project is approved construction is expected to begin in August.

“I don’t have a problem with the project,” Novoselsky said. “It depends on what the people want.”

The public is invited Revere Police Station Community Room, 400 Revere Beach Parkway on Wednesday, June 15 at 6:00 PM for Ward 1 residents and Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 7 p.m. for Ward 2 residents.  For Ward 2 residents, if you are not able to attend on Thursday, you may attend the Ward 1 meeting on Wednesday.  The same is in reverse for Ward 1 residents.
