RHS Graduates Receive Diplomas on Thursday

The 111th graduation exercises of the Revere High School (RHS) will take place this Thursday, June 9, at the Harry Della Russo Stadium as some 400 graduates walk across the stage to receive their diplomas.

This year’s class features students attending numerous prestigious colleges and universities, including Wellesley, MIT, Georgetown, and Boston University.

It is also the first class to have had personal iPads for all four years of study at RHS, being the first beneficiaries for four years of block scheduling and “flipped” learning approaches to teaching.

The Valedictorian is Alicia Barry, and the Salutatorian is Luke Hartnett. The Class President is Michael DeAngelo.

School officials said the students are resilient, and one of the most prominent features about the class is how diverse it is.

“This class has resilience and character,” said Assistant Principal Jonathan Mitchell. “You have kids who fled from the Arab Spring, kids who survived the earthquake in Haiti and war refugees from all over the world. It’s really like the new American Dream coming through this Gateway City.”

He said he believes that is part of the appeal to the top-flight universities that pay particular attention to Revere students – many of whom have already laid a path of success at those prominent colleges.

“In general, universities like our kids because they are diverse, urban kids and tend to play well with others,” he said. “They are from a really diverse school where they could be sitting across the table from people who could be from anywhere in the world. Those relationships make them flexible.”

The graduation will feature students from RHS, Seacoast Academy and the Coast Collaborative (which is in the Mahoney Circle Plaza).
