We need your help

Dear Editor:

Veterans Assisting Veterans is donating a $15,000 Trac Wheel Chair to a paralyzed Army Ranger who was injured in Afghanistan in October 2012. Spec. Sean Pesce was shot 13 times and has a severe spinal cord injury and has no feeling from the waist down. I learned about Sean from Andrew Biggio, who is founder of Boston’s Wounded Vet Motorcycle Run and Sean is being honored this year at the motorcycle event. As president of Veterans Assisting Veterans and a board member of Boston’s Wounded Vet run, we wanted to get Sean the Trac Chair.

Veterans Assisting Veterans received a $15,000 donation from the Greater Lowell Community Foundation to purchase a Trac Chair for a veteran from the Lowell or Merrimac Valley area. We were unable to find a veteran from this area for the Trac Chair and we contacted all veterans groups and the name that kept coming up was Sean. We contacted the Greater Lowell Community Foundation and explained to them our situation and sent them Sean’s story. After reading about Sean and the amount of injuries he has, he was the perfect candidate. Sean is from West Haven, CT, and was shot in his left forearm, left thigh, left and right flank, has injuries to his spleen, kidney, pancreas, bottom lobes of left and right lungs, two broken vertebrae, severe nerve damage, paralyzed L5 down, spinal fusion and rodding, and too many surgeries to count. His fellow soldiers lined up needle-to-needle and arm-to-arm and began direct infusion to keep Sean alive.

We couldn’t think of a better candidate than Sean and on Feb. 6 at Anthony’s in Malden, at the Wounded Vet Cabin Fever Party Sean will receive his Trac Chair as a surprise. As I told Sean’s mother about the chair she became emotional and stated that other organizations had promised Sean a Trac Chair and they never delivered. The cabin fever party is open to everyone. Come by and meet Sean and look at his Trac Chair. Donations can be made at the event or to Veterans Assisting Veterans P.O. Box 274 Dracut, Ma 01826. Veterans Assisting Veterans is a 501C3 Charity, Federal Tax ID Number 45-5431821. We are currently networking with other veterans organizations to get a new pick up truck and special wheel chair lift for Sean. Two years ago we donated a Trac Chair to a paralyzed Marine Veteran James Crosby of Winthrop. We also got James a special lift for his Trac Chair.
