The following is the statement of Council President Jessica Giannino regarding the First Suffolk and Middlesex District Senate seat.
“After giving tremendous consideration to the possibility of running in a Special Election to succeed Senator Anthony Pertucelli in the Massachusetts Senate, I have decided not to seek the seat at this time.
I want to thank Senator Petrucelli for his years of distinguished service and also, to extend to him and his family my very best wishes for success in the next chapter of their lives. To my own family, friends and supporters who have contacted me with offers of support, words of encouragement and wise counsel throughout these past few weeks, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. It has been a whirlwind that has taught me the importance of having deep roots and lasting friendships in the community.To the candidates who either are or will be running to become the Senator from the First Suffolk and Middlesex District, I wish you luck and look forward to working with whoever succeeds in filling the very large shoes Senator Petrucelli will be leaving behind.â€
