Observance of Columbus Day Showcased the Best

Columbus Day festivities in Revere were a big hit from the moment the pre-holiday breakfast started Sunday at the Revere High cafeteria to the time the final marcher completed the parade route Monday afternoon.

Mayor Dan Rizzo and the parade and breakfast committees gave this city a celebration to remember honoring Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, the man who discovered America.

The breakfast was an enjoyable affair catered by none other than Lenny DeMaino and staff at his outstanding Italian restaurant. The best part was the speaking program led by Mayor Rizzo and emceed by well-known disc jockey Stevie Ray. Mayor Dan Rizzo, Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo, State Rep. RoseLee Vincent, and Police Chief Joseph Cafarelli included some good-natured barbs in their remarks to the large gathering.

Chief Cafarelli was particularly in fine form, performing a Top 10 List – a la David Letterman – that drew laughter from the audience. Revere TV energetic executive director Bob Dunbar was there to broadcast the event.

It was a beautiful, sunny day for the Columbus Day Parade and Revere residents lined Broadway for the festivities. Parade producer Buddy Mangini and committee co-chairs Debbie West and Kerri Abrams brought our city a wonderful parade that people of all ages enjoyed.

The entire Columbus Day observance in Revere reflected well on Mayor Rizzo, city officials who participated in the breakfast and the parade, and the committee who made it all happen.

We look forward to Columbus Day holidays in future years and we hope they match the excellence of the 2015 celebration.
