Orbelina Erazo to Compete in Miss Mass.

Revere resident Orbelina Erazo
has been working towards competing in the Miss Massachusetts
pageant for the past few years. She also hopes to help revive the pageant scene on the North Shore.

Orbelina Erazo is a young woman who knows what she wants – the title of Miss Massachusetts 2016 – and she will go for it on June 28 at the Hanover Theater in Worcester.

Erazo is moving up the ladder in the pageant world and hopes to expand the pageant in Massachusetts. She currently holds the title of Miss South Shore, even though her roots are in Revere. She explained that she and others are trying to create a Miss Coastal Massachusetts and even Miss North Shore.

A 2010 graduate of Revere High School, Erazo also attended the Paul Revere School and the Garfield School. She graduated from Wheelock College in 2014 with a degree in American Studies and a minor in psychology, communication and writing. The 23-year-old currently works at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and plans to go on to nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital and become a nurse practitioner.

Erazo volunteers at East Boston Healthy Kids and ran in the 5K Fitness Challenge race.

The Miss America pageant prides itself on giving scholarships to young women who aspire to make a difference.

“It’s a great scholarship organization,” Erazo said. “My major goal is to become Miss Massachusetts, volunteer, especially in Revere. This is where I live. I want to make more appearances in Revere.”

While her parents are from El Salvador, she spent her early years living in Costa Rica.

“I’ve grown a lot,” she said, adding that she has been working on her interview skills, on-stage questions and evening gown presence and overall fitness. For the talent portion of the competition, Erazo will do a monologue called, “Stardust,” from the television show “The Middle”.

“I want to show the attitude and the way I would be if I was the title holder,” Erazo said. “I’m a positive thinker and believe anything is possible.”

Last year during the Miss America pageant Miss Massachusetts came in fourth in the national competition.
