A Wonderful Tribute To Al Blasi

We commend Revere High School director of athletic Shaun Hart and Revere High baseball coach Sean Brinkley for the baseball program’s outstanding tribute to Al Blasi that was held Monday at Conigliaro Field.

Hart and Brinkley felt that an appropriate honor for the late Mr. Blasi would be to have the 2015 season dedicated in his memory. The players’ baseball hats were embroidered with the name “Blasi” and there was a flag in his honor behind the home plate backstop.

Anyone who followed Revere baseball or who played the sport locally knows that Al Blasi was a giant in high school baseball and one of the most respect and admired coaches in the profession.

It was great to see several of his players return for Monday’s ceremony and pay tribute to their former mentor. While Al was known for his coaching prowess, he was also a highly regarded social studies teacher who was always available to assist his students.

The Blasi family, including his son, Anthony, who spoke so eloquently about his father at the ceremony, appreciated this special tribute to Al, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. We thank the Blasi family for sharing Al with this community and allowing us to spend time with this wonderful man on and off the baseball field.

Al Blasi devoted 42 years of his life to coaching Revere baseball players. He taught the game well, but more importantly, he set a great example for his student-athletes with his hard work and dedication to his position.

The team’s dedication of its season to Al Blasi was a fitting tribute to a man who loved coaching baseball and being a part of the Revere community.
