Howard Cook

Owner of Sound and Media Vision on Squire Road, formerly on Shirley Avenue

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Howard Cook, husband of Francine Cook and father of Justin Cook and Lindsay Weiss.

Howard was the owner of Sound and Media Vision on Squire Road, formerly located on Shirley Avenue.

The funeral was held from Congregation Shirat Hayam Synagogue, 55 Atlantic Avenue, Swampscott, MA 01907 on Sunday followed by interment at the Beth Israel Cemetery in Everett. Shiva was observed at the residence of Mike and Lindsay Weiss.

Alberta (Mogorovich) Blanciforti

World War II Concentration Camp survivor and Italian War Bride

Alberta (Mogorovich) Blanciforti died on Saturday, January 17 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital following a long Illness.

Born and raised in Trieste, Italy, when Alberta was just 19 years old, her life changed forever. During World War II, the Germans invaded her hometown of Trieste, she became a prisoner of war and was sent off to a Concentration Camp. She witnessed and endured three years of horror.

When the war was over, she was one of only a few “Survivors.” She returned to Trieste and shortly thereafter met and fell in love with Jospeh Blanciforti, a soldier in the United States Army. The couple left Italy for America and settled in Revere where they made their home. She became the mother of twin girls.

Alberta loved her new life in America and being a wife and mother. She loved to knit, crochet and sew and she made various creations of all sorts. She was also a caregiver to many people.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Blanciforti with whom she shared 57 years of marriage; the loving mother of Dr. Laura A. Blanciforti – Phipps and her husband, Timothy of Morgantown, WV and Linda M. O’Hara and her companion, Thomas Sullivan of Revere; the cherished grandmother of Molly A. O’Hara and her fiancé, Martin Pino and Kori M. O’Hara and her fiancé, John A. LaSala, all of Revere, Nicholas Phipps and Zachary Phipps, both of Morgantown, WV. She is also lovingly survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and her two canine companions Roxy and Teddy.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday (only) from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107 Revere, A Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. in St. Michael The Archangel Chapel at the Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150. John ‘Jack’ Scopa, Jr.

Man of faith who loved his family and playing Bocce

John R. “Jack” Scopa, Jr. of Revere, formerly of East Boston, was called home by our Lord on Thursday, January 15 after a long battle with cancer. He was 88 years old.

Jack was born and raised in East Boston. He attended Boston Public Schools and like many courageous young men enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. When he returned from serving his country, Jack began his career as a glazier. He learned this trade as a young man and eventually mastered his craft. For over 46 years, he worked for Brockway – Smith. During this time, he met and married Grace Capone, a love that would last for 62 years.

The couple remained in East Boston and began their family, having one daughter, Elaine. They thrived there surrounded by family and good friends and living in a wonderful neighborhood where people looked out for one another. It wasn’t until 1972 that Jack and his family moved to Revere, starting a “New Chapter” in their lives.

Jack received two of the greatest gifts, his grandchildren, he loved them unconditionally as children and as adults. Jack’s greatest pleasure was being a loving participant in his grandchildren’s lives. Jack appreciated the simple gifts in life, spending time with his family and playing Bocce. He was also a man of faith and a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church for over 40 years. Whenever Jack began something, he did it with devotion and whole heartedly. Jack was also a past member of the Paramount Men’s Club in East Boston.

He was the the husband of Grace (Capone) Scopa with whom he shared 62 years of marriage; father of Elaine Fielding and her husband, Stephen; grandfather of Ryan Fielding and his wife, Karen and Stephanie Marchetti and her husband, Matthew; the great grandfather and namesake of Jack Warren Fielding; brother of Evelyn Maragioglio and Elaine Tino and the son of the late Lucy and John Scopa. He is also survived by several loving and caring nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Funeral Service was held in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere with arrangements by the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere. Interment was private. Carmela Lupo

Longtime CAPIC Receptionist

Carmela J. (Mauro) Lupo of Revere died on January 15 at the Whiiden Memorial Hospital. She was 89 years old.

Carmella, who worked for many years as a receptionist at CAPIC, was born in Chelsea and lived most of her life in Revere.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella (Arema) Mauro; the beloved mother of Anthony Frizzi and his wife, Eileen, Richard Lupo. Loretta Perretti and her husband, Domenic and Michael Lupo, all of Revere; dear sister of the late Antonio Mauro and Anna Laschi and is also survived by seven loving grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret ‘Peg’ Nickerson

Devoted to home and family

Margaret M. “Peg”(Sullivan) Nickerson, a lifelong resident of Revere, died on Friday, January 16 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center of Revere after a very long illness. She was 80 years old.

Peg was born and raised in Revere and attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and High School. She was proud of being one of 16 children. Shortly after graduation she married Wallace Brown Nickerson and the couple remained in Revere and started their own family of six children. Peg found it to be rewarding and loved nothing more than being a mother.

In 1984, tragedy struck and Peg lost her husband suddenly. She maintained her commitment to her family and was later blessed with many grandchildren.

She was the devoted wife of the late Wallace Brown Nickerson with whom she shared 27 years of marriage; the loving mother of Wallace H, Nickerson of Malden, Kevin M. Nickerson and his wife, Dawn of North Billerica, Carole A. Pollastrone and her husband, Gerald of Everett, Marybeth Valasquez and her husband, Orlando of Concord, NC., Dennis P. Nickerson and his companion, Shiela Cooke of Winthrop and Douglas B. Nickerson and his wife, Tammy of Salem. She was the cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; the beloved sister of Florence Twoomey, Edna McCauley, Elizabeth Petney, Ellen Thorton, Claire McKenna, Carol Mendez, Larry Sullivan and the late Martin, Leonard, Edward, James, Leo, William, John, and Raymond Sullivan and is also lovingly survived by many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her funeral will be conducted from the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere today at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Immculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) Revere.

Francis A. Porcaro of Revere, formerly of East Boston, passed away on January 16.

A US Air Force veteran of the Korean War and the Past Commodore of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club, Winthrop, he was the beloved husband of Mary ( DiMarzo) Porcaro; loving father of Francine Perrier of Revere and her companion, Steven Powell; cherished grandfather of Monique Napolitano and her husband, Stephen of Reading, Richard Perrier and his wife, Kelly of Danvers; adored great grandfather of Adriana and Alicia Napolitano and Ryan Perrier; dear brother of the late Beverly Abate, Sylvia Duca, Adrienne Crohn, Allison Paci and brother in law of Anna D’Agostino of East Boston. Marie C. (Romano) Marino of Stoneham died on January 13. She was 86 years old.

Marie was a member of the Ladies of Sodality of St. Anthony Church in Revere. She loved traveling to the islands and playing tennis.

She was the proud wife of the late World War II Marine veteran Arthur R. Marino Sr. with whom she enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage; loving mother of Arthur R. Maurice was the proprietor of Foss Park Gas in Somerville, a Master Mason and member of King Solomon’s Lodge in Somerville.

Anne (Litwin) Rich of Revere died on January 13, She was 89 years old.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with friends at the Revere Senior Center.

Genevieve “Jean” (Primatello) Cataldo of Rockledge, Florida, formerly of Revere, died on January 11. She was 90 years old.

A homemaker and a devoted member of St Theresa’s Parish for many years, Jean was born and raised in Revere, the daughter of the late Achille and Antoinette (Festa) Primatello. Howard Alan ‘Howie” Cook of Salem, New Hampshire, and Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Revere and Swampscott, Massachusetts, died suddenly on January 14 in St. Maarten. He was 65 years old.

He was the beloved husband of Francine Hillman Cook with whom he shared 44 years of marriage; son of Jack and Miriam Cook and son-in-law of Leonard and Marcia Hillman; devoted father of Justin Cook and his wife, Molly Plummer Cook, and Lindsay Cook Weiss and her husband, Michael Weiss; cherished grandfather of Jael and Meyer Cook and Avery and Brooklyn Weiss; loving brother of Sheryl Cook Moscaritolo and Barry Cook and his wife, Valerie, and brother-in-law of Bernard and Anita Horowitz; adored papa to Tobey and Lucas Phinney. Mario Colecchia of Revere died on January 16.

A US Army veteran, he was the beloved husband of Lillian S. (Perrella) Colecchia of Revere; devoted father of Donna M. Colecchia of Carver, Mario Colecchia Jr. and his wife, Marilyn of Florida, Denise Colecchia and her husband, Frank Gormley of Lynn, Michael Colecchia and his wife, Christine of Revere, Diane Parks and her husband, John of Saugus and Mark Colecchia of Revere; dear brother of Betty Ranery of California, Ida Everson of Nevada and the late Fausto Colecchia. He was the cherished grandfather of 12, great-grandfather of 10 and great-great grandfather of three and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

John Capone

Educator and Administrator in Revere and Lexington School Systems; elected to Mass. Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame

John D. Capone of Pembroke, NH, formerly of Revere, passed away peacefully in Concord, NH after a short period of declining health.

John was born in Lawrence on May 31, 1921 to William and Florence Capone, but moved to Revere soon after. He called Revere home for more than 80 years before moving to Pembroke, NH in 2005.

John was a 1938 graduate of Revere High School, received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Salem Teachers College in 1943 and his Masters Degree in education from Boston University in 1947.

John served overseas in Italy from 1943 through 1945 as a weather observer in the United States Army Air Force rising to the rank of Sergeant. He was also a member of American Legion Post 61 in Revere.

John spent over 38 years in the Revere and Lexington School systems as a dedicated teacher and assistant principal. He taught social studies at the McKinley School and Revere High School from 1947 until 1963. From 1963 until 1968 he served as Assistant Principal at Revere High School. In 1969 he taught Social Studies at Lexington High School and then served as Assistant Principal at both Diamond Junior High School and Clarke Junior High School in Lexington from 1970 until 1985.

Upon his retirement from the educational system, John worked for many years at the Boston Globe in a program that brought the newspaper into area classrooms as a teaching aid.

A talented baseball and basketball player at both the high school and college level, John later went on to become the Baseball coach at Revere High School from 1948 until 1963. He also coached the Grahm Junior College baseball team in 1969. He was elected to the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1991.

John also umpired baseball and refereed basketball at both the High School and College level. In 2010, John was elected as an Honorary Member of the College Basketball Officials Association.

John was active in the community as a Charter Member of the Revere Little League. He also coached youth basketball and volunteered his time and energy in a number of political campaigns at the local and national level.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Mary J. Collins of Leesburg, Florida; his son, John and his wife, Marci and their two daughters Brieana and Jonna of Asheville, North Carolina, his son Donald and his wife, Joanne and their son, Michael and daughter Jessica of Guilderland, NY and his son, Michael of Canterbury, NH.

His Funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons~Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St., Revere on Thursday, January 22 at 9:30a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 a.m.. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m.
