Rizzo Points to Revere’s Bright Future

REVERE – Mayor Dan Rizzo knows the city is literally on the rise and that plays a significant role in the launching of Plan Revere, a comprehensive look into all the development in Revere, including the 70 acres of land that make up Suffolk Downs and the former Wonderland dog track.

“We were handed an opportunity to craft our own vision for what’s best for Revere at these locations,” Rizzo said.

During his state of the city speech last night, Rizzo, now entering the final year of his first term, said he’d like to have a comprehensive plan to access the needs of the city and focus on the strongest assets of the community: proximity to Boston, waterfront property and access to public transportation. He explained that development such as Vanguard at Waterfront Square, Market Basket, Harley Davidson, Harry Della Russo Stadium, 565 Beach St., TA Associates, For Kids Only, 39 units of housing at the former site of Reardon’s Restaurant, and the new Sgt. James J. Hill School represent over $150 million in public and private investment in the city.

Working together with John Festa, the city’s director of economic development, Rizzo wants to kick-off Plan Revere to take a comprehensive view at all development in Revere. This will include a 50-person Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. Anyone interested in becoming a member should contact the mayor or Festa.

            “We know there is much more to be done,” Rizzo said.

            Rizzo acknowledged the success of the Revere Public Schools and credited Superintendent Paul Dakin, who has been in the Revere school system for the last 21 years. He also recognized the police and fire department for the communities’ safety. Last year there was a 23.9 percent decrease in overall crime in Revere. He also noted the quick response when a tornado hit Revere last July.

            “Revere schools have been put on the map,” Rizzo said.

  • Dear author, the city is not "literally" on the rise. If it were, its elevation would be increasing. It is figuratively on the rise.

  • You will not be getting a casino because of the height restriction, You can't build a world class one with out height. Any thing low will look like crap, so give it up. East Boston already voted no so.
