Looking at the Veterans Day Committe

The Revere Veterans Committee was established to conduct a Veterans’ Day ceremony for the City of Revere on behalf of the Veterans of Revere.  In 2003 we conducted the first, in many years, Veterans Day services and dinner for the Veterans of Revere and the Chelsea Soldiers Home at the VFW in Beachmont.  We completed our mission by conducting barbeques on July 4th, on Labor Day, on Columbus Day and during the summer concerts on the Legion Lawn at the American Legion on Broadway.

The Committee was put together with the total co-operation of Councillor Ira Novoselsky, my Co-Chairman.  It was his ideas to get me involved in helping the Veterans of Revere and re-establish a Veterans Day Program in the City of Revere.  This program is conducted with the assistance of Revere’s Director of Veteran Services, Nick Bua and has now obtained total support of the Revere City officials, local businesses and local civic organizations.

This year we honored and presented certificates of appreciation to several organizations and individuals for their support of our programs and the Veterans of the City of Revere.  They included the Prince-Strauss Post 161-Jewish War Veterans of the USA as the host organization for the City Memorial Day ceremonies and the Revere American Legion Post #61 for the use of their facility during the year.  Certificates were also presented to Rick Labadini for his volunteerism for veterans and the beautification of Revere and Vince Giarusso of North Shore Shuttle for transporting the residents of the Chelsea Soldiers Home to the event and Mayor Dan Rizzo for his ongoing support for Veterans.

Special thanks go out to the many businesses and private contributors that made this event possible and the success that it was:  Speaker of the House Bob DeLeo and Representative Roselee Vincent; Mayor Dan Rizzo along with Revere City Councillors Bob Haas, Jr., Anthony Zambuto, Steven Morabito, Ira Novoselsky and.  Special thanks to Revere School Committee Members Donna Pruitt, Carol Tye, Susan Gravalese and Michael Ferrante.  Private businesses and individuals assisting in all our efforts include: Mickey “Say no to Drugs” Casoli, Alan LaBella- our DJ for the evening, Staples-Revere, Bianco’s and Son Meats, St. Jean’s Credit Union, Stop & Shop-Suffolk Downs, Luberto’s Bakery, Nu-Deal Produce, BJ’s, Revere TV- Rick Promise and Bob Dunbar, Beachmont VFW Post #6712, Joseph Leon Mottolo Post 4524, American Legion Post #61, Prince-Strauss/Groman Post 161-Jewish War Veterans – Revere, Patriot Civic Club, Revere Moose, Revere Elks and the Revere Allied Veteran’s Council.  Thanks to all the volunteers that helped to make this happen:  Fran Mazzeo and Pam Anderson, VFW Post #6712 and its’ Ladies Auxiliary for providing the location and doing the serving, The American Legion Post #61 for their support of the barbeques and use of their hall for various functions, our in-house Disc Jockey- Morris Morris for the music and use of his equipment for all the events during the year.

An event such as this brings a community together. That’s what it is all about!

Thank you for your support of our veterans.
