Metro North Plan Could Complement Revere’s Development

Mayor Dan Rizzo and Economic Development Director John Festa have scheduled the city’s second economic summit for Nov. 21 and one of the issues surely that will be discussed is state  Housing and Economic Development Secretary’s Greg Bialecki’s land use plan for the newly named “Metro North” region that includes Revere and eight other communities, Chelsea, Everett, Charlestown, Winthrop, East Boston, Malden, Melrose, and Somerville.

To Mayor Rizzo’s credit, he has always been receptive to collaborative and regional approaches to issues affecting Revere. He was an engaged participant in Bialecki’s conference that was held at the Wyndham Hotel in Chelsea and he is certainly weighing the plan’s potential impact on Revere’s ongoing and future plans for development.

And Revere is making positive strides on the development and job growth front with the opening of the new Market Basket store in the Northgate Shopping Center, the opening of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership on the former site of Johnny’s Foodmaster, and the construction of The Vanguard luxury apartment complex on Revere Beach. There is more good news forthcoming for our city as well.

We’re sure that Mayor Rizzo and Director Festa will be extending an invitation to Mr. Bialecki for their second annual summit that was so well received by all the state and city officials, business people, and developers who attended the event last year.

The new Metro North regional concept seems like an exciting opportunity that could complement Revere’s development efforts. We know the Mayor will consider the city’s potential involvement in the plan and do what is best for our city’s future.
