Casino License Decision Is Set for Mid-Sept.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has issued a meeting date of Sept. 12 to potentially award the Region A casino license to either Mohegan Sun or Wynn Resorts – a date that is, unbelievably, only one month away in what has been a year’s long process.

The all-day meeting will take place on a Friday and could potentially end in the awarding of the license once and for all.

That said, the date is fluid and the MGC could postpone or extend the Sept. 12 date.

More excitement along casino lines will take place next Monday, Aug. 11, when the final installment of the three-part MGC local public hearing will take place at 4 p.m. in the Revere High School Auditorium.

The agenda for the meeting states that the meeting is a continuation of the June 24 hearing at RHS and is “intended to provide the Commission with the opportunity to hear any comments related to events occurring since the opening of the Host Community Hearing.”

There will be comments from the representatives of the municipalities, comments by members of the public and closing statements from the applicant and Host Community.

The Commission will limit each speaker to four minutes, and in order to speak one must sign up prior to the meeting.

To sign up, send an e-mail to  with ‘Request to Address the Commission/Mohegan Sun MA, LLC’ in the subject line.

Another similar hearing will take place the next day, Aug. 12, in Everett regarding the Wynn Resorts proposal in that city.
