Good News for Revere

The news that Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh is close to finalizing a mitigation package with Mohegan Sun for the impacts of the casino at Suffolk Downs would have on the city of Boston is good news for the city of Revere.

The agreement, which will result in millions of dollars going to Boston each year, is being viewed as an advantage for Mohegan Sun Casino in its competition with Wynn Resorts for the lone Greater Boston gaming license that the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) will be awarded in the next few months.

Boston’s agreement follows other surrounding communities such as Chelsea and Winthrop also receiving lucrative deals from Mohegan Sun, which has clearly shown through its actions that it is a good neighbor and one who understands the impacts a casino will have on the area.

The Boston agreement removes a key hurdle that the Mohegan Sun resort/casino faced as the day of the MGC’s decision approaches. Thus far, Wynn Resorts of Everett has not reached an agreement with the city of Boston.

Revere residents have been closely following the casino licensing process for a long time. And the excitement is building to a crescendo as the MGC prepares to decide whether Mohegan Sun or Wynn Resorts will receive the gaming license for this region.

Every news item, every MGC hearing, every strategic move, and every pronouncement by Mohegan Sun and Wynn Resorts has the full attention of Revere residents and the entire state for that matter. The signing of the Mohegan Sun-Boston agreement is a big story and a major development in the gaming licensing process. It appears at this juncture to be a positive development for Revere as well.
