The Revere High School (RHS) Softball team took a walk-off 1-0 win in extra innings on Friday afternoon against Catholic Central. The game was evenly matched and a pitcher’s duel with RHS Junior Sabrina Palermo turning in an unreal performance despite battling an illness all this past week. It looked as if the game could go all night as the eighth inning (the first of extra innings) seemed to be coming to a close when Revere got two outs.
Then, out of nowhere, Juliana Cecere hit a blazing line drive to the outfield that took Catholic Central off guard. She was safe at third before anyone could catch his or her breath.
Suddenly the Stadium in Lowell was on edge. RHS’s Gabrielle Cammarata pinch-ran for Cecere. Then, Kristina Stella took a four pitches for a walk.
That set up a truly intense moment with Cammarata on third and RHS’s Victoria Russo at the bat – a chance at the North Sectional Title game on the line.
She delivered.
A bloop single over first base hit the line, staying fair and scoring Cammarata for the walk-off win.
The Stadium went wild, and Revere’s magical run continued.
Revere will play Newton North on Sunday, June 8, at 5:45 p.m. in Lowell, once again, at Martin Field.
