Middle School Girls Lacrosse Team Battles Methuen to 5-5 Tie

Playing at home for only the second time this season, the Revere Girls Middle School Lacrosse team played the visiting team from Methuen to a 5-5 tie last Sunday morning at the turf field.

Our girls played hard from the opening face-off and led 2-1 at halftime. The first time that they had led at the half all season. The Lady Pats went up by scores of 3-1 and 4-2 early in the second half but had a couple of defensive breakdowns late in the half that allowed their opponents to pull within 1 goal (5-4) with a little over a minute left in the game and it looked as though our girls would earn their first victory of the year. However, with 45 seconds left in the contest Methuen was awarded a penalty shot on an empty net, as Lady Patriot goalie Grace Magno (who had another spectacular game between the pipes) was removed from the goal by the ref to allow the Methuen player a sure goal that tied it at 5.

In addition to the free shot, two Revere goals (both by Jordan Sullivan) were disallowed due to Patriot defensemen being in the crease. All in all, it was Revere’s best effort to date as they continued to become familiar with the many complex rules of the game.

On the offensive side, five different Patriots scored as Lily Delloiacono, Kiana Napolitano, Jenna Wells, Janelle Mercado, and Emily DiGiulio all had single goals.

Coaches Karen Atkinson and Steve Magno have done a fantastic job bringing these girls along, as they continue to be very competitive against more established programs week after week.
