Powder Puff Showdown: RHS Seniors Ready for Game Versus Winthrop on Saturday

Forty-three Revere High School senior girls will compete in the annual Powder Puff Football Game Saturday at 1 p.m. at Harry Della Russo Stadium.

Current teacher Mark Fellowes, guidance counselor Diana DeCristoforo, retired teacher Dave Colella, and retired athletic director Bob Lospennato are the coaches of the Revere team who will play Winthrop High.

The RHS team has been practicing five nights a week for the past six weeks in preparation for the fun, but competitive encounter on the gridiron.

“There is a lot of preparation and time that goes into it,” said DeCristoforo, former RHS basketball star and girls basketball coach. “It’s a tradition that has been going on since the late 1970s.”

This is the second year of the renewal of the Powder Puff series with Winthrop. Revere won the first game last year. The teams played several times in previous years. The game is a fundraiser for the RHS senior class.

“We’re excited to continue the tradition with Winthrop,” said DeCristoforo.

Three-sport captain Logan DiCarlo and Lauren Hayes are the Revere quarterbacks. Comfort Toglan, Noelle MacDonald, and Cassandra DiBella head the contingent of running backs. Paola Ortiz, Angela Curtis, and Jen Fajardo lead the Revere defense.

One additional reason that the game is generating excitement is that it is one of the last athletic events at the stadium before it is closed for a full-scale renovation project.

Tickets to the game are $5 and available at the door.
