The Revere High football team showed some good signs that should bode well for the coming 2102 campaign in their first pre-season scrimmage Saturday morning at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School.
“We did a lot of good things, especially on offense, where we moved the ball well,” said RHS head coach Lou Cicatelli. Both Revere and H-W scored once during the varsity part of the get-together, with the JV Patriots also reaching the end zone against their Hamilton-Wenham counterparts.
Among the Patriot players who earned praise from Cicatelli, were fleet senior quarterback Joe Ritchie, halfback Tom Portrait (who rushed for about 70 yards on five carries), senior fullback Andy Restiano, and senior running back Conlen Ajintah. Cicatelli also noted the fine play of freshman quarterback Dan Murphy in the JV encounter.
“Dan was very impressive for a freshman and showed a lot of promise,” said the coach.
On the defensive side of the pigskin, the linebacking duo Restiano and Caleb Silva shone brightly, as did senior Kyle Gotham out of his outside-backer post (which is a hybrid defensive end/linebacker in the Revere defensive scheme).
“Everyone got a chance to play and we got a good look at all of the boys,” said Cicatelli. “All in all it was a good scrimmage and we showed signs that we’re starting to come together as a team.”
The Pats were set to be back in action yesterday (Tuesday) in their second and final scrimmage of the pre-season in a three-way matchup with Northeast Regional Vocational and St. Mary’s of Lynn at Harry Della Russo Stadium.
Cicatelli and his crew then will concentrate on preparing for their season opener against Medford which is scheduled for Friday evening, September 7, at 7:00, at Della Russo Stadium.
