Born in Melrose, he was the beloved son of Robert and Diane (Santa Anna) Delaney of Revere; dear brother of Kellie (Delaney) Capra of Salem, NH and Robert Delaney and his wife, April of Lynn; cherished grandson of Mary Delaney and the late William Delaney of Reading and Gregory and Joan Santa Anna of Revere; adored uncle of Ashleigh, Chloe, Brooklyn, Savannah, and Brianna; dear nephew of Janet Santa Anna, Lisa Goodwin, William, Russell, Scott, Mark and Richard Delaney and the late James Santa Anna.

Louis Gene Maglio
Retired Chief Probation Officer of Boston Juvenile Court, Sterling Member of the Greatest Generation
With the loss of Louis Gene Maglio, a 55 year resident of Lewis Avenue, Winthrop and a resident of Brooksby Village in Peabody since 2009, the towns of Winthrop and East Boston have lost one of their finest sons and a sterling member of “The Greatest Generation.†Mr. Maglio, who was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Theresa M. Maglio in 2008, was 94 years old on July 12.
He was born and raised in East Boston and spent his formative and early married years there. He was a product of the East Boston School System and a graduate of Boston University where he received his B.S. and Masters of Education Degrees.
Mr. Maglio dedicated his professional life to improving the lives of youthful juvenile offenders. A nationally noted figure in the field of juvenile issues, he was the Executive Director of the Citizenship Training Group, a branch of the Boston Juvenile Court for many years and ended his career as the Chief Probation Officer of the Boston Juvenile Court. He was also an Associate Professor at the Boston University Dept. of Special Education. Â In his retirement years, he was an Associate Professor and Lecturer at Northeastern University.
His storybook concurrent US Army Military Service began with his enlistment in 1941 as a Private and with hard work, continuing education and meritorious service ended with his discharge as a Captain in 1946. During World War II, he was stationed overseas for 28 months. His dedication to the military continued with a long career in the U.S. Army Reserve and he retired from the Army Reserve attaining the rank of Lieut. Colonel.
In 1952, he was named by the Boston Junior Chamber of Commerce to the “Outstanding Young Men of Greater Boston.” Other notables in this group of eight were the future President of The United States, John F. Kennedy, and Massachusetts Senator Edward W. Brooke. He was a member of numerous local, state and national boards, appointments and community service organizations.
He published many works on the subject of juvenile crime as well as training manuals for those entering the field. He was a great motivational speaker and an inspiration to all those who knew him. He is listed in such publications as: “Who’s Who in the East,” Who’s Who in American Education,†“National Social Register,” “The 2000 Men of Achievement in 1969,” “The National Register of Prominent Americans,” “International Notables,” and”International Who’s Who in Community Service” among many others.
He was a faithful and devout member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Winthrop, befriending the many pastors through the years and always helping in any way he could with parish duties. He and his wife were fixtures at the weekly Saturday afternoon Mass.
When he decided to retire, he and his wife, Theresa enjoyed 25 years of wintering at their home in the Sarasota, Florida area, but always looked forward to summering at their beloved home in Winthrop.
Louis Maglio started the “Street of Flags” on Lewis Avenue in Winthrop prompting all residents to continuously post an American Flag proudly on their property and that tradition continues to this day.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five siblings, Anthony, Jenny, Michael, Carmella and Anna. He leaves his sons Louis G. Maglio, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn of North Andover and Paul L. Maglio and his wife, Virginia of Ipswich; three loving grandchildren, Christina and her husband, Thomas Babcock of Waltham, Brianna and Luke of Ipswich. He also leaves numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Ernest P. Caggiano & Son – O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop. Burial with full military honors was in the Belle Isle Section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Antoinetta ‘Tootsie’ Cogliandro
Of Revere, formerly of East Boston
Antoinetta “Tootsie” (Velona) Cogliandro of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on July 20 at Epoch of Melrose after a long illness. She was 93 years old.
Born, raised and educated in East Boston, she moved to Revere in 1947. For many years, she worked as a stitcher for the former Picariello-Singer Manufacturing Co. in East Boston.
Later in life, she was the accountant and bookkeeper for her husband’s barber shops in East Boston and Cambridge. Her late husband, Michael “Mike†Cogliandro, a most popular figure in the Cambridge and East Boston communities, died on April 19, 2009.
She was the beloved mother of Anthony C. Cogliandro and his wife, Annina of Saugus and the late Domenic J. and Richard J. Cogliandro; devoted grandmother of Marisa Vaughn and her husband, Eric and Michael R. Cogliandro, all of Salem, Michael A. Cogliandro and his wife, Stephanie of Cumberland, RI, Michelle Brewster and her husband, Matthew of Portsmouth, NH and Anthony S. Cogliandro of Saugus; dear sister of the late Anna Ali, Bruno, Hugo and Nicholas Velona and is also lovingly survived by her great grandchildren, Adriana, Carina, Parker and Connor; her brother in law, Sam Cogliandro and his wife, Marianna of Revere and by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Serafina “Lena†(Pagliocca) Sordello of Revere died on July 20 at the Pilgrim Nursing and Rehab Center in Peabody.
She was 79 years old.
Born in Italy, the daughter of the late Mario and Raffaela (Cimildoro) Pagliocca, she worked in the food service industry for Marriot International at Boston’s Logan Airport.
She was the beloved wife of 54 years of the late Arthur Sr., devoted mother of Deborah Sordello-Carignan of Peabody, Ralph and his fiancé, Patricia Farago of Winthrop, Arthur Jr. and his wife, Susan of Topsfield and Mario of Revere; dear sister of Adua Voci of Wakefield, Antonio Pagliocca and his wife, Pasquelina of South Walpole and the late Pasquelina Sinatra. Former Vice Commander of Beachmont VFW; Member of Moose, Elks and American Legion
Harrison J. Fisher of Revere died on July 17 at the Bedford VA after a brief illness.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late David Beal and Clara (Fisher). A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a former employee of the GE in Lynn, the former Vice Commander of the Beachmont VFW and a member of Revere Moose, Revere Elks and American Legion.
He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Sciarappa); devoted father of Linda Fisher of Revere, Anthony Paul Fisher of Florida and the late Harrison Fisher, Jr.; dear brother of Frederick Killilea of Arlington, Charles Killilea of Lexington, Warren Killilea of Woburn, David Killilea of Belmont and the late Richard and Agnes Killilea. Gerhard George ‘Gerry’ Oberle

Gerhard George “Gerry” Oberle died peacefully at home in Beachmont Revere on July 13.
In addition to his wife, Anne (Stashewsky) Oberle, he will be remembered as a loving father to his children, the late Gerhard “Gary” Oberle, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Hanson and Edward Oberle and his wife, Rosann of Algonquin, Illinois.
Mr. Oberle was blessed to be the eldest of many brothers and sisters whom he lovingly cared for: the late Gertrude (Oberle) Vangundy, Frank X. Oberle, Geraldine (Oberle) Stangeby, Louise (Oberle) Read, the late Hildegard (Oberle) Druckamiller, the late Adolph “Rudy” Oberle, and George Oberle. Mr. Oberle was tremendously proud of the eight grandchildren that he leaves behind; Julianne Oberle, Kaitlyn Oberle, Jennifer Oberle, Gerhard “Greg” Oberle III, James Oberle, Edward Oberle Jr. and his wife, Katy, Joseph Oberle, and Daniel Oberle, as well as his precious great-granddaughter Audrey Oberle.

John Sordillo
Real Estate Investment Businessman
John V. Sordillo of Lynn, formerly of Revere, died peacefully on July 16 with his family at his side. He was 90 years old.
Mr. Sordillo was born October 5, 1921. He grew up in Revere, was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1939 and a US Navy veteran who served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston.
After his marriage to the late Phyllis (Welsh) Sordillo in 1949, he moved to Lynn where he raised his four daughters. He worked for many years at General Electric in Lynn before leaving in 1964 to start his own Real Estate Investment business. He retired from the business in 1997.
He enjoyed ballroom dancing with Phyllis at Wonderland and various other ballrooms and also enjoyed spending time with his large extended family. He was an avid New England Patriot’s football fan, both in the good times and the lean times.
He was the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Sollitto) Sordillo of Revere and is survived by four daughters: Diane Reilly and her husband, William, of Lynn, Donna Vecchione and her husband, Paul of Topsfield, Debra Sordillo of Boston and Denise Powell and her husband, Austin of Swampscott; seven grandchildren: William Reilly and his wife, Katarina, Bryan Reilly and his wife, Kelly, John Vecchione and his fiancée, Maria Braccio and Michael Vecchione, Austin, Olivia and Elizabeth Powell; four great grandchildren: Emma, Colin, Finnegan and Dashiell Reilly; his sisters, Marie Cecconi, wife of the late Greg of Costa Mesa, California, Dorothy Hayes and her husband, Richard of Revere and his brother, Vincent and his wife, Claire of Greenville, RI. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces.

Paul J. Ruggiero, Jr. of Stoneham, formerly of Malden and Revere, died peacefully on July 22 after a long illness with heart disease.
A 57-year member of I.U.O.E. Local 4 and the Co-founder of Hanover Contracting Corp. of Malden, he was a representative for Aquathin of Greater Boston and a member of Revere Business Assoc. and the Saugus Elks Club #642. He was also a longtime volunteer at the Northridge Hospital in Florida.

Clara Kennedy of Washington Avenue, Winthrop died at the Boston Medical Center on July 21 after a brief illness. She was 82 years old.
Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Maria (Pecce) and Bernard DiPlecido, she lived in East Boston before moving to Winthrop over 42 years ago. Mrs. Kennedy was employed as a controller for the Hilton Hotel at Logan Airport for many years and was still working up until her illness. She was also a member of the Winthrop Emblem Club.
She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph A. Kennedy and the loving mother of Joseph A. Kennedy II of Byfield and Richard Kennedy of Winthrop; Â the dear sister of Pam Gioioso of Revere and John DiPlecido of Florida and is also survived by nine grandchildren.
