Revere’s Anthony Pisani is off to a superb start for the University of Rhode Island baseball team.
Pisani, a senior co-captain, was selected as College Baseball Insider’s Northeast Region Pitcher of the Week. The Northeast Region consists of 74 teams from eight different Division 1 conferences.
The 6-foot, 200-pound lefthander received the award after limiting UConn to three singles in six innings. He also struck out five and made two key defensive plays to help URI post its first shutout (2-0) victory of the year.
Pisani has earned a spot in the Rams’ starting rotation. He leads the staff with nine strikeouts and a 1.64 earned run average in two starts. In his first start, Pisani led URI to a 4-3 victory over the College of William and Mary, a performance that merited him Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week honors.
Pisani, the former MVP of the Bishop Fenwick High School baseball team, is on the radar of Major League baseball scouts. With a 90-plus mph fastball and excellent control, Pisani has emerged as a potential selection in the Major League Draft that is held in June.
Anthony is the son of Paul and Rose Pisani.
