Tennis Team Shows Improvement

Although the Revere High girls tennis team came out on the short end of a 5-0 decision to Lynn English in its only match last week, the Lady Patriots turned in some good performances against their English counterparts

Freshman Sara Grujic, playing at first singles, battled back after dropping the first set, 6-1, to post a 6-4 triumph in the second set and then narrowly lost the third set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1). Similarly, Christina DiFabio at second singles rallied after losing the first set to win the second set and force a third before falling,  6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

“It was nice to see both Sara and Christina refuse to give up and stage comebacks,” said RHS head coach Carla Maniscalco. “They played hard and that’s what you want to see.”

In the other matches, Nancy Nguyen fell at third singles, 6-2, 6-1; the first doubles tandem of Mounia El-Arara and Karen Chan dropped their match, 6-1, 6-3; and at second doubles, the duo of Mei Ling Theng and Mariah Rivera played well, but came out on the short end of a 6-2, 6-4 decision.

Maniscalco and her team played at Swampscott yesterday (Tuesday) and then travel to Lynn English today and to Winthrop Monday.
