A Good Idea – Drive-Through Proposal is Sound

The owner of Honey Dew Donuts has petitioned the city government for a drive-through for its location on Squire Road.

Our observation of this request is that it doesn’t vary at all from what presently exists on at least a half dozen locations of that busy commercial strip.

There is a Dunkin Donuts with a drive through on Squire Road. There is the East Boston Savings Bank on Squire Road with a drive through. There are three gasoline stations with automobiles driving in and out at all hours of the day and night and there is a bakery and a food mart operation all with major curb cuts and traffic moving in and out.

On merit, there is nothing wrong with the Honey Dew Donut request for a drive through.

What would be wrong is to deny it.

None of the other properties mentioned exit onto a residential street. Unless things are rearranged so that HoneyDew both enters AND exits onto Squire Road, this drive thru petition should be DENIED.
