Marie Giuffre

Longtime City Hall employee

Marie (Gigante) Giuffre of Revere, formerly of the West End, died on November 27.

She was employed in the collectors department at Revere City Hall for more than 25 years.

The beloved wife of Raymond Giuffre with whom she shared 62 years of marriage, she was the loving mother of Marlene Cronin, Mona Giuffre and her partner, Michele Catalano, Raymond Giuffre and his partner, Chu Nater, and their son Elijah Nater and Marisa Giuffre, all of Revere; dear sister of Anna May Riminiscenza and Dorothy Alonardo, both of Medford, Loretta Papa, Angela Toscano, Jannine Ellis and Jack Gigante, all of Revere, and the late Arlene Settipane and James Gigante; cherished grandmother of Taylor Marie Giuffre-Catalano and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

James J. Dionne of Revere, formerly of Medford and Malden, died on November 26.

He was the father of John Dionne of Revere; son of John J. and Barbara (DeCecca) Dionne of Medford; brother of Suzanne Dionne of Andover, Michelle Johnson of Billerica, Joseph Dionne of Tavernier, FL and the late Michael Dionne. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jennie (Caputo) Boccuzzi of Revere died peacefully with her family by her side on November 28. She was 93 years old.

A member of St. Anthony’s Ladies Society, she was the beloved wife of the late Ralph, the devoted mother of Theodore and his wife, Rose, of Penfield NY, Jean DiGiovanni and her husband, James, of Revere  (who  cared for her in her later years) and Mary Ann Cronin and her husband, Raymond, of Topsfield; dear sister of Joseph Caputo of South Boston, Viola Boffa of Saugus, Anthony Caputo of Chelsea, Angie DiStasio of New Hampshire, John Presto of Randolph, Josephine White of Florida and the late Louis Caputo, Frank  Caputo, Mildred Giliberti, Salvatore Caputo, Frank Presto, Russell Presto. She is also survived by seven loving grandchildren and 13 great grand children and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth F. (Smith) Santosuosso of Saugus died on November 26.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph L. Santosuosso; loving mother of Ralph L. Georgia “Irene” (Swanson) Green of Malden, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, died on November 28.

Mrs. Green worked for many years at the Nile Pharmacy in Minneapolis MN and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 234.

She was the beloved wife of Jack W.; devoted mother of Robert Green and his wife, Blanca, of Malden, Scott Green of Minnesota and four step daughters; dear sister of the late Muriel Sampson; loving grandmother of Robert Jack, Blake Robert, Shayra, Alex, Christie, Emily, Bryanna and Travis. She is also survived by many loving great grandchildren.

Beatrice (Barlow) Josephs-Barr of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, died on November 24.  She was 93 years old.

The beloved wife of the late Moses Leslie Barr and the late Irving Josephs, she was born in Chelsea and attended the Chelsea schools.  She was a retired bookkeeper for Temple Emmanuel of Chelsea where she worked for many years.  She served two terms as Past President of the Temple Emmanuel Sisterhood and two terms as Past President of her chapter B’nai B’rith.  She was a tireless volunteer and fundraiser for many Jewish organizations.

She was the devoted mother of Lewis S. Barr and his wife Rochelle, and Franklin J. Barr and his wife, Judith; the loving daughter of the late Anna and Louis Barlow; the dear sister of Marilyn Furman; the loving grandmother of Melissa and her husband, Craig Carnahan, Keira and her husband, Rob Tamurian, and Alison and her fiancé, Joydeep Basu. She was the loving great grandmother of Catylyn, Morgan, Kelen, and Cole.

Paul Segal

Past President of B’nail B’rith

Paul P. Segal of Revere and Delray Beach, Florida died on November 1. He was 98 years old.

A graduate of Boston English High, he attended Northeastern Law School and managed millinery stores throughout New England. He was Past President of B’nai B’rith, a 50 year member of Grand Masonic Lodge of Massachusetts and an avid golfer and sports fan.

He was the beloved husband of the late Bernice Segal and devoted father of Jan Schwartz, Sheila Segal and Alvin Segal, he was grandfather to three and great-grandfather to 10. He was the son of Abraham and Bertha Segal and brother of Nathan Segal and Norma Binder.

Graveside services were held at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach, Florida. Angelo Luciano Gibelli of Revere, formerly of the North End of Boston, died on November 26.

A  US  Army veteran of World War II, he was a Life member of the VFW DeFronzo Post 2346 Saugus, Knights of Columbus, St Anthony’s Holy Name Society and the Postal Workers Union Local 34.

The beloved husband of Angeline (Ziogas), he was the devoted father of Donna Nugent- Gibelli of Norton and Stephen and his wife, Deborah, of Portland, CT; loving grandfather of Nicholas Angelo and Alexandra Rochelle; dear brother of Salvatore of North Billerica, Josephine Chiampa of Medford, Connie Bono of Somerville and the late Gaetano, Louis and Mary Messina. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Anne Marie Peterson

Registered nurse

Anne Marie (DeNunzio) Peterson of Concord died on November 23. She was 88 years old.

Born in Revere on June 27,1922, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Louise (Turco) De Nunzio. She attended Revere public schools and graduated from Revere High School in 1939. She was a registered nurse who graduated from Whidden Hospital School of Nursing in Everett. Mrs. Peterson was formerly employed as a nurse at Concord Academy and at Campion Center in Weston.

A Concord resident since 1956, she was a longtime member of St. Bernard’s Parish in Concord where she was an active member of the St. Bernard’s Choir. She was also a volunteer at Emerson Hospital and with the Concord Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

She was the beloved wife of the late George A. Peterson and is survived by her daughter, Christine Peterson of Columbus, Ohio; her three sons, James M. Peterson and his wife, Jeanne, of S. Orleans; John D. Peterson and his wife, MaryAnn, of Stratford, NH; and Steven E. Peterson of Cambridge; four grandchildren: Hugo and Gretchen Peterson of Cape Cod and Meghan and Holly Peterson of New Hampshire. She also leaves her brother Vincent DeNunzio and sister-law, Jean, of York, Maine and two sisters Rita Sweeney of Revere and Joan Patti and her brother-in-law, Joseph Patti, of Orinda, CA.

Antoinette Januario

Past President of the Immaculata Guild

Antoinette M. “Ann” (Ferrara) Januario, formerly of Revere, died peacefully in Lynn on November 24. She was 91 years old.

A dedicated housewife and mother, she was past president of the Immaculata Guild (1973) and a former member of the Guildette Bowling League for over 40 years. She was a devotee of the Immaculate Conception Community Family and was a past honorary godmother (sponsor) for three classes of Confirmation children. Her love of life and her sense of humor won her many lasting friends. Her home became a “home away from home” for all who knew her.

She was the wife of the late Arthur R. Januario; devoted mother of Rita F. Calnan and her husband, Richard, of Rockport, Rosemary Lane and her husband, Gerald K., of Canton, Arthur R. Januario, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Billerica, and John B. Januario and his wife, Diane, of Lynn; cherished grandmother of Matthew, Lisa, Michael, Jennifer, Patrick and his wife, Nicole, Shannon, Artie, Alicia and Kelly. She is also lovingly survived by her great grandson John Michael, and many nieces and nephews. She was the dear sister of the late Josephine Scanzillo, Concordia “Connie” Vernacchio, Regina “Jean” Feola, and Reverend Bede Ferrara, OFM; daughter of the late Enrico and Rosa (Colangelo) Ferrara.

John S. Hagan of Revere died on November 26 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center. He was 80 years old.

Joseph P. “Bill” DeGilorma of Revere died on November 24.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite (Russo); devoted father of Margie Handy of Revere, Kathy Cristiano and her companion, James Bond, of Malden and the late Nancy Maffeo and her surviving husband, Michael, of Everett; brother of William of North Reading and the late Michael, Angelo, Domenic, Rosario, Antonio, Charles, Rose DeGilorma, Florence Leo, Albina DeMato, Chicki Aldo and Ella Foppiano. Philip DeRosa

Educator, businessman, activist

Philip A. DeRosa of Salem, NH died peacefully on November 24 at his home. He was 65 years old.

He was born in Winthrop, grew up in Revere and graduated from Revere High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fitchburg State College. He was a former junior high school teacher of industrial arts in Tewksbury, the past president of the Tewksbury Teachers Association and past member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association Board of Directors. He owned and operated Realty Inspections, Inc. and The Country Cupboard, both in Derry, NH.

He was a long time resident of Salem, NH, where he served as a former member and chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustment for 17 years. He was an active member of the Dollars for Scholars organization for over 20 years and served as past president. He was also a member of the Derry-Salem Elks and a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church.

He will be best remembered, in his own words, as someone who “did his best to bring friends together and make sure everybody had a good time” and that he “was a simple man who led a good life.”

Mr. DeRosa was the son of the late Anthony C. DeRosa. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margo E. (Cusick) DeRosa of Salem, NH; his son Philip A. DeRosa, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Hudson, NH; his daughters, Christine L. of Methuen, and Meg E. DeRosa and her husband, Tony Melo, of Salem, NH; his mother, Louise M. (Maglione) DeRosa of Revere; his sisters, Joan and his brother-in-law, Michael Raimo, of Salem, NH, and Louise A. DeRosa of Revere; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anthony, Philip and Antony; and several nieces and a nephew.

Kevin M. Couture of Wenham, formerly of Revere, died on November 28 following a valiant battle with cancer. He was 55 years old.

The beloved son of the late Richard L. and Dorothy M. (Beaton) Couture, he was the cherished brother of Carolyn M. Shackelton and her husband, Robert C. of Wenham, Richard L. Couture and his wife, Linda A., of Lynnfield and Sandra J. Bergamasco and her husband, Donald J., of Revere; dear uncle to Patricia J. Bertone and her husband, Richard, of Danvers, Greta M. Shackelton of Wenham and Gregg M. Couture of Wakefield. He is also lovingly survived by two grand nieces, Stefanie Burke and her husband, Michael, and Jennifer Bertone, all of Danvers and two great grand nephews, Michael and Jason Burke.

Doreen O’Donnell

Supervisor for CRW-Healthcare

Doreen M. (Maguire) O’Donnell died unexpectedly at her Revere home on November 28. She was 66 years old.

Born in Boston, she was a lifelong resident of Revere and an graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar and High School and of Regis College, Class of 1966. She began her career with Chelsea-Revere-Winthrop Elder Healthcare in 1985 and has been a Supervisor of the Social Workers Division for more than 20 years. She was a past president and member of the Immaculata Guild.

The most devoted mother of James T. O’Donnell and his wife, Shannan K., of Revere and Mary-Margaret Zablocki and her husband, John C., of Fairfield, CT, she was the cherished grandmother of Savanah A., Sabrina J. Maguire and Caitlyn R. O’Donnell, all of Revere, and Mary Katherine Zablocki of Fairfield, CT; the dear sister of Sharon M. Ranno of Orlando, Florida, the aunt and Godmother to Nicole M. Davis and her husband, W. Spencer Davis, and the grand aunt of S. Alex and Hope M. Davis, all of Washington DC. She is also lovingly survived by two uncles.

Roger Fitzpatrick Jr.

Longtime employee of the U.S. Postal Service

Roger P. Fitzpatrick Jr. of Revere died following a long illness on November 27 at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston . He was 55 years old.

Mr. Fitzpatrick lived in Revere for most of his life until moving to Belmont in 1984. He remained in Belmont until 2002 when he returned to Revere. He had a 25 year career with the US Postal Service, serving over 18 years at the Belmont Post Office. He was a member of the Revere Council-Knights of Columbus and the Burlington Flyers (Radio Planes) Club. He was also an avid motorcyclist and rode with several motorcycle clubs.

He was the son of the late Roger P. Sr. and Palma A. (Cardinale) Fitzpatrick; devoted father of Meagan A. Fitzpatrick and her companion, Spencer W. Cosgrove, of Medford and Andrea M. Fitzpatrick and her fiancé, Scott Ashworth, of Billerica; dear brother of John D. Fitzpatrick of Revere, Denise Sullivan and her husband, David, of Billerica, Christine Wenz and her husband, Patrick, of Florida, NY and Karen A. Wallace of Bloomsbury, NJ. He is also lovingly survived by the mother of his children, Patricia A. (Moretti) Newman and her husband, Richard, and their son, Sean P. Newman, of Lowell and his “best buddy,” David Hunt of Revere. Lena (Rosensky) Bresgal of Revere and Chelsea died on November 27.  She was 94 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Bresgal; the devoted mother of Judith Geller and her husband, Steven, Harriet Spadin, and the late Sharon Hanela; the dear sister of the late Samuel Rosensky; the devoted aunt of Harold Mindel and the loving grandmother of Robert Geller, Lisa Pulliam, Michael Geller, Melissa Finkel, Rachelle Hanela, and Gabrielle Hanela.  She was also the loving great-grandmother of three.

John Paul “Jaggar” Copello Jr., a former Certified Nursing Assistant and a lifelong Chesea resident, died suddenly at the Whidden Memorial Hospital on November 26. He was 50 years old.

Born in Chelsea, he was the son of John P. Sr. and Clarice (Howe) Copello of Chelsea. He attended local public schools and worked in Chelsea all his life as a mail sorter for Watson Mailing Service for several years and later as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home for many years.

A caring man, who enjoyed helping others, he also cared for his parents in their home. He also enjoyed movies, being in the sun and spending time on the beach.

He is the loving son of John P. Sr. and Clarice (Howe) Copello of Chelsea; devoted brother of Helen Fahey and her husband, George, of Saugus, Anna Marie Breen of Lynn, Joanne Ely and her husband, Larry, of Everett, Paula MacDonald of Revere, Patricia Muse and her husband, Larry, of Maine and the late Catherine Ippolito; dear brother in law of John Ippolito of California and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, a great-great niece and many friends.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated in St. Michael the Archangel Chapel on November 30. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to Dr. Matthew S.
