The Revere High girls tennis team defeated Salem 4-1 to improve to 4-6 on the season. Coach Carla Maniscalco received strong performances from all of her singles players, who cruised to easy victories in straight sets.
Elma Meskovic, playing at No. 1, defeated her Salem counterpart 6-2, 6-0. Victoria Mauro at second singles triumphed y a score of 6-1, 6-4 and Yvonne Rincon blanked her Salem foe, 6-0, 6-0.
The fist doubles tandem of Jennifer Kingston and Donna Le cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in their match. The second doubles duo of Cristina DeFabio and Nancy Nguyen fell by a score of 5-7, 1-6.
“I was very pleased with the way that Elma played,” said Maniscalco. “She was very steady throughout. Victoria and our first doubles also showed some toughness when their opponents came on strong in the second sets, but they held it together to earn the wins.”
Maniscalco and her crew have a busy week on tap as they seek to finish strong in order to qualify for the state tourney. They were set to take on Lynn Classical this past Monday and Swampscott yesterday (Tuesday), the latter a makeup of last week’s rainout. Today (Wednesday) they face Beverly and next Monday they will take on Lynn English in which the Lady Pats will conclude their previous meeting which was shortened by rain two weeks ago and then go right into a new match.
