Boys tennis team defeats Lynn Classical

The Revere High boys tennis team earned their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Lynn Classical last week.

The three singles players for Coach Mike Flynn’s Patriots accounted for all three of their team’s points and they did so in sterling fashion with straight set whitewashings of their Classical foes.

Francesco Tartaglia, playing at No. 1 singles, was a 6-0, 6-0 winner; Richard Bonilla did likewise at second singles; and Malak Mossadek won his third singles match in easy fashion, 6-0, 6-1.

Though the Patriot doubles teams did not triumph, they made a good showing. The first doubles duo of Parawat Chaiwong and Nick Mucci fell by a score of 2-6, 4-6, and the second doubles tandem of Nick Tran and William Truong lost by a score of 3-6, 4-6.

“It was nice to get that first win,” said Flynn. “We have a very young team, with 13 of our 17 players either freshmen or sophomores, but our senior captains are showing outstanding leadership.”

In a 5-0 loss to Beverly two days later, the second doubles pairing for Revere featured sophomore Tim Mellon and freshman Mladen Pepic. “We’re still moving players up and down the ladder and we expect to give all of our freshmen and sophomores a chance to play,” said Flynn. “We have a great group of kids who are committed to working hard and hopefully we’ll continue to improve as the season progresses.”

Flynn and company played Lynn English Monday and then travel to Peabody today (Wednesday) and to Gloucester tomorrow.
